Speaker Application

Unfortunately applications are closed for 2020. We run many events and get asked to put forward WoC speakers for events. Please register here to be kept informed of when speaker applications for one of our events is open and/or speaking opportunities.

Speak at #ColourFULL 2020

#ColourFULL 2020 is a conference and awards night created by women of colour for women of colour and change makers.

The event aims to be interactive, practical and empowering. We seek to elevate, empower and educate women of colour (WoC) in everything we do.

If you’d like to speak or present, we want to hear from you.

The application form may look long to some but it is about making the process fair and equitable. We want to give those that have had little to no experience in speaking, a fair and equal opportunity to do so compared to the more seasoned and experienced speakers. The form helps you think through your presentation whether it be a keynote, breakout, panel or workshop. By the end of it you will have a full and well thought out presentation that hits the mark and truly adds value to the audience. As a speaker, this is our number one goal.

Applications close 4pm, 31 August 2019.

What we’re looking for in our prospective speakers

We want to ensure that our speakers empower women of colour by being culturally and psychologically safe in their presentations. We also want to sure that we are as diverse and inclusive as possible in terms of content, speakers and context. We want women of colour to walk away positive with a highly effective toolkit of strategies, resources, tips and skills that they can implement straight away to advance and progress in their careers.

In order to do this effectively, all applications will be evaluated by our inclusive programming and awards committee.

Who should apply?

  • Woman of Colour

  • Executives and leaders from organisations

  • Diversity and inclusion practitioners

Key requirements

  1. Be available between 5-9 March 2020 TBC to attend the event.

  2. Must be a self identified women of colour or change maker (ally) who lives and or resides in Australia. Visa status is irrelevant.

  3. Attend the event (in full or partial) to interact with attendees.

  4. Read the terms and conditions via clicking on the button below.

Please consider the following:

Key considerations and requirements are:

  1. Be culturally and psychologically safe in your content and delivery.

  2. Don’t be too sales-orientated - we will reject presentations that are. Serve first.

  3. Deliver value that is practical, actionable and doable today. Basically, if we can Google it, we don’t want it on stage. If it’s what we already know, we also don’t want it on stage. Open our minds to new thinking, new ideas, new strategies and tools to advance WoC.

  4. Be yourself. Be humble. Give credit where credit is due. Be positive, inclusive, optimistic yet provocative. Use plain language. Make it accessible.

  5. Have a focus. What is the that one single idea that is going to blow everyone’s mind?

  6. Focus on the woman of colour and/or organisations. What can they do to advance WoC?

  7. WIIFM? (What’s in it for me?) - Why should WoC care about your one single idea? What’s in it for them?

  8. Over deliver. What resources, tools, handouts, courses can you provide (free) for WoC to include in their digital packs?

  9. Make it memorable, aim for life changing. No one likes a presentation that they can sleep through or that is death by PowerPoint. Make it fun, experiential, engaging and deep. Have strong presentation and delivery skills. (Note: if you have great content but lack in delivery we will provide you with coaching provided you are committed to improving. This is our commitment to advancing women of colour).

  10. Don’t input minimum info into the below form. This is the basis of which we will be assessing your application. So put 200% effort in.

Process

  1. Read the terms and conditions via clicking on the button below.

  2. If you agree to the above terms and conditions, submit your application before 4pm, 31 July 2019. If you do not agree some or all of the terms and conditions and you still want to speak/present, then email us at hello[at]aminaofzaria.com with

    - a detailed description of what you do not agree with.

  3. Have your presentation idea ready and submit it via the link below (click on the button). Note you can only submit a maximum of two presentation ideas. One idea per form submission please. Do not put both ideas onto the one form. We will reject it if this is so.

  4. Till we get back to you, put some thought and initial preparation into your presentation in case it has passed the first round (expression of interest). Even if it hasn’t you will have a presentation ready to go!

  5. We will notify if your application to present has been progressed to the next stage. You will then be asked to complete your full presentation, record it and submit it by a due date. This is mainly to check if it is psychologically and culturally safe for attendees.

  6. The programming and awards committee will review final applications and curate a program.

  7. We will notify if your application to present has been successful. We will be in contact regarding any additional information required or tasks that need to be completed. 8. Once offers are accepted and speakers and session content are confirmed, we will announce the speakers on the website.
